Lighting - Exterior Lamp Fogging

Classification: EL03-030F

Reference: NTB03-074F

Date: February 21, 2012

EXTERIOR LAMP FOGGING

This bulletin has been amended. The Applied Vehicles section and the first paragraph of the Service Information section have been revised. Please

discard all previous versions.

APPLIED VEHICLES: 2001-2012 Nissan, All Models

2019 Nissan-Datsun Altima L4-2.5L (QR25DE) Page 158

SERVICE INFORMATION

Occasionally customers may notice water vapor or fog in the exterior lamps. This is generally NOT due to a defect.

The following information, illustrations, and flow chart are provided to help you in determining if an incident for water/condensation in the lamps is

normal or not.

All current exterior lamp assemblies are vented to the atmosphere (not sealed).

^ This is necessary to allow for expansion and contraction of air from temperature "variations" (warmer or colder) without damage to the lamp.

^ Moisture in the air sometimes "travels" into and out of the lamp assembly through these vents.

^ Certain environmental conditions may cause moisture to condense.

^ The fogging/cloudiness should disappear over time when the lamp is in a dry environment.

Fog may temporarily form inside the lens of the exterior lamp assemblies based on environmental conditions or sudden temperature changes (such as

in a car wash, or parked on a cold, sunny day). This is normal. See Figure 1.

NOTE:

This condensation can appear anywhere on the outer lens, typically at its coldest location.

If the moisture trickles, drips, or pools, it may not be considered normal and the lamp assembly may have a water leak path. See Figure 2 for an

example.

If large drops of water collect inside the lens, refer to the flow chart below to find the next step.

SERVICE PROCEDURE

Should a customer note water in a lamp assembly, please use the following flow chart to determine if the condition is normal or requires lamp

Electrical - JIS & CCA Battery Testing Information

Classification: EL10-010

Reference: NTB10-038

Date: March 11, 2010

NISSAN; TESTING JIS-TYPE & CCA-TYPE BATTERIES

APPLIED VEHICLES: All Nissan vehicles

SERVICE INFORMATION

Nissan vehicles equipped with standard lead/acid batteries use one of two different types with unique battery rating specifications: JIS & CCA.

JIS = Japan Industrial Standard, used for Japan produced batteries

CCA = Cold Cranking Amps, standard for North American produced batteries

IMPORTANT:

^ JIS batteries have different testing specifications than CCA batteries.

^ If you must use the GR8 Battery Tester in a mode other than MODEL mode, JIS Mode MUST ALWAYS BE USED for JIS batteries otherwise an

incorrect result will occur. NEVER test a JIS battery using the CCA test in the GR8; the test software in the GR8 is different for JIS and CCA

modes. ANY CCA value you may have for a JIS-type battery is inaccurate for testing purposes.

ALWAYS test with the GR8 using the MODEL mode (if available).

^ Selecting MODEL and vehicle type will automatically select the proper JIS or CCA value for the Original Equipment battery.

^ If the applicable vehicle is not listed update the GR8 to make sure it has the most recent data package.

^ If the applicable vehicle still is not listed:

1) Determine which type of battery (CCA or JIS) is installed in the vehicle. See below for descriptions of each battery.

2) Select CCA or JIS in the GR8 based on the type of battery installed. See below for more information.

2019 Nissan-Datsun Altima L4-2.5L (QR25DE) Page 224

Determine the Battery Type

Batteries with JIS (Japanese Industrial Standard) Number

^ Batteries installed in vehicles produced in Japan have a JIS number embossed in the plastic on top of the battery.

^ These vehicles have a VIN that begins with the letter "J".

Batteries with CCA (Cold Cranking Amps) Number

^ Batteries installed in vehicles produced in North America have a CCA number displayed on the label attached to the top of the battery.

^ These vehicles have a VIN that begins with a number: 1, 3, or 5.

Selecting CCA or JIS in the GR8 Battery Tester

Vehicles with JIS Battery

^ Select JIS, then choose the option that matches the first five (5) characters of the JIS number on the battery.

NOTE:

DO NOT select CCA when testing a JIS battery.

Vehicles with CCA Battery

^ Select CCA, then choose the option that matches the number following "Cold Cranking Amps" on the battery.

Reference: NTB11-096

Date: October 19, 2011

iPOD(R) / iPHONE(R) ISSUES USING VEHICLE USB INTERFACE

APPLIED VEHICLES: All Nissan vehicles equipped with a USB Interface

SERVICE INFORMATION

If an IPod(R)/ iPhone(R) related concern is verified on a vehicle while using the USB interface, perform the steps in this bulletin for initial

diagnosis.

NOTE:

For vehicles equipped with a Navigation system, make sure to confirm whether the customer is experiencing the issue while using the USB interface

or the Bluetooth(R) Audio Streaming feature. This bulletin applies only if the issue occurs while using the USB interface.

1. Power OFF/ON (restart/reset) the iPod(R)/ iPhone(R)

^ The restart/reset procedure is not the same for every iPod(R)/ iPhone(R). The restart/reset procedures can be found at www.apple.com/support.

2. Check the USB cable.

^ Some aftermarket cables can cause issues with USB connectivity. If the customer is using an iPod(R)/ iPhone(R), the best cable to use is the

Apple Inc. branded USB cable.

^ Make sure the cable does not have a short circuit or other concern.

3. Confirm the latest software is installed on the iPod(R)/ iPhone(R)

2017 Nissan-Datsun Altima L4-2.5L (QR25DE) Page 188

^ Many concerns are addressed by installing the latest iPod(R)/ iPhone(R) software update from Apple Inc.

^ View the software version of the iPod(R)/iPhonee(R) by navigating to the Settings area of the device, then selecting General > About or Settings.

^ Visit http://support.apple.com/downloads and select the applicable device to view the latest software update offered by Apple Inc.

4. If steps 1-3 have not resolved the concern:

a. Disconnect the cable from the USB interface.

b. Turn OFF the vehicle, wait one (1) minute, then turn the vehicle back to ACC or ON.

c. Connect a different USB device to the USB interface in the customer's vehicle, then try to duplicate the concern.

NOTE:

Other USB devices include a USB thumb drive formatted at either Fat16 or Fat32 with .mp3 or .wma files, or another type of iPod(R) (iTouch(R),

Classic(R), Nano(R), etc.).

d. If the concern still exists with a known good USB device, refer to the applicable Electronic Service Manual (ESM) for diagnosis on the USB

interface and/or AV Control Unit connectors.

PREMIUM NAVI / AUDIO VISUAL CONTROL UNIT DIAGNOSIS AND ORDERING

This bulletin has been amended by adding to the APPLIED VEHICLES list, and the procedure to obtain the A/V unit part number. Please discard all

previous versions of this bulletin.

APPLIED VEHICLES

SERVICE INFORMATION

To improve customer satisfaction by providing the correct repair on the first visit, Nissan has revised the procedure for ordering an "exchange" or

"new" Audio Visual (A/V) Control Unit for vehicles with the premium navigation systems only (Refer to PROCEDURE).

^ To ensure a proper diagnosis and repair, the technician will need to call TECH LINE to confirm (or assist with) their diagnosis and the proper

repair prior to ordering the unit.

^ Clarion will require a confirmation from TECH LINE prior to shipping the exchange unit orders.

^ For the premium navigation system only.

^ Parts will be put on parts restriction and will need to be cleared prior to the order shipping.

^ The warranty claims call center will verify that TECH LINE has recommended replacement as part of the approval process in the event that a new

unit is required.

> TECH LINE has the support of engineering and Clarion in diagnosis if required.

NOTE:

All other A/V units will be ordered and shipped through the normal process.

> As usual, most units ordered should be an exchange unit versus a new unit.

This requirement of calling TECH LINE for confirmation to replace an A/V unit will be monitored to ensure the most effective and accurate method

of repair. Future changes or adjustments may be made to this process to increase repair timeliness and/or customer satisfaction.

A NEW UNIT IS REQUIRED ONLY IF:

^ The vehicle has not yet been sold.

^ The customer requests a new unit on a non-warranty repair.

^ The exchange unit is not available.

^ Insurance claim replacement.

NOTE:

Nissan would also recommend that this procedure is used for non-warranty repairs to ensure that a proper diagnosis and repair are performed.

PROCEDURE

a. Verify and duplicate the customers concern if possible. If duplication is not possible, please gather as much information about the incident

as possible from the service advisor/writer or customer.

b. Check for any connected devices (phone, iPod, MP3 player, etc.) or determine if a connected device is present during the concern. Please

gather model and software version information if possible.

c. Perform NTB09-063 for any Bluetooth concerns and NTB11-096 for any iPod / iPhone music play through USB concerns.

d. After gathering preliminary information of the concern, please call TECH LINE. After a diagnosis of the concern has been performed, and

2017 Nissan-Datsun Altima L4-2.5L (QR25DE) Page 56

the technician and TECH LINE agree that the unit should be replaced, the dealer can order the part.

e. TECH LINE will confirm with Clarion that the diagnosis has occurred.

f. After the order is confirmed with Clarion, an order/shipping confirmation fax will be sent to the dealer.

g. Before an order is placed, the technician/dealer will need to provide TECH LINE with the following information from the incident unit:

CVT OIL LEAK DIAGNOSIS USING FLORESCENT DYE

APPLIED TRANSMISSION: Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT)

SERVICE INFORMATION

If you have a CVT that appears to have oil seepage or a leak on the transmission, follow the steps below to assist in a correct diagnosis.

1. Thoroughly clean off the area of the suspected leak.

2. Install 1 fluid ounce of J-28431 Fluorescent Oil Dye* into the CVT.

3. Drive vehicle for a minimum of 30 minutes (to ensure proper diagnosis).

4. Inspect with lamp from J-43926 A/C Dye Kit*

If no fluorescent oil trace/leak is found, the stain is probably:

^ corrosion protection chemicals sprayed on the transmission

and/or

^ lubricants which are sometimes used to ease the assembly process.

NOTE:

These may cause dust to accumulate (gather) on the transmission and have the appearance of an oil leak. Neither of these requires corrective action.

If a fluorescent oil trace/leak is found:

^ Repair using standard warranty procedures.

*These tools were made Essential in 2001 (J-28431) and 1999 (J-43926). They are also available from Tech Mate.

NOTE:

The Fluorescent Oil Dye is also available from Tech Mate in a pack of six 1 ounce bottles. That pack is available as part number J-28431-6.

SERVICE INFORMATION

NOTE:

This bulletin provides information to be shared with all affected customers.

^ This TSB contains the appropriate hookup points for connecting a trailer light wiring harness to the towing vehicle's electrical system.

^ The wiring diagrams contained in this bulletin are for Nissan vehicles that have trailer towing capability (see the owners manual) but do not have a

Genuine Nissan accessory towing kit (with wiring) available.

^ When splicing into the vehicle electrical system, a power-type module/converter must be used to provide power for all trailer lighting. A

power-type module/converter uses the vehicle battery as a direct power source for all trailer lights while using the vehicle taillight, stoplight, and

turn signal circuits only as a signal source. (See the illustration above.) The module/converter must draw no more than 5 milliamps from the

vehicle turn signal circuits and no more than 15 milliamps from the stop and tail light circuits.

CAUTION:

Using a module/converter that exceeds these power requirements listed above may negatively affect the performance and function of the vehicle's

electrical system.

See a professional trailer dealer or trailer rental agency for installation of the proper equipment.

Customers who inquire about towing should be reminded of the following:

^ Always check for correct operation of the turn signals, stoplights, and taillights every time a trailer is hitched up for towing.

^ The towing capacity for 350Z (Coupe Only), Altima, Maxima, and Sentra is 1,000 lbs.

For more information, refer customers to the Owner's Manual as well as the Nissan Towing Guide, available online at NissanUSA.com.

Engine Controls - Seized O2 Sensor Removal Procedure

Classification: EM09-015

Reference: NTB10-009

Date: January 19, 2010

REMOVAL PROCEDURE FOR SEIZED EXHAUST SENSOR

APPLIED VEHICLES: All Nissan vehicles

SERVICE INFORMATION

If an exhaust sensor is seized in the exhaust manifold/catalyst/front tube, perform the procedure described in this bulletin to remove the sensor and

prevent unnecessary replacement of the exhaust manifold/catalyst/front tube.

In most cases this procedure is successful. This is because the threads of the exhaust sensors are made of a softer material than the part they thread

into on the exhaust manifold/catalyst/front tube.

NOTE:

The replacement of exhaust manifolds/catalysts/front tubes for stripped exhaust sensor threads may not be considered a warrantable expense.

This procedure can be performed by two methods:

Method #1 - If the Sensor Can Be Easily Accessed

^ The procedure can be performed on the vehicle.

2017 Nissan-Datsun Altima L4-2.5L (QR25DE) Page 388

^ The exhaust manifold/catalyst/front tube will not have to be removed.

Method #2 - If the Sensor Cannot Be Easily Accessed

^ The exhaust manifold/catalyst/front tube must be removed from the vehicle.

^ The procedure will be performed with the part clamped in a vice.

Method #2 is described in this bulletin. Method #1 is the same as Method #2 except that it is performed on the vehicle.

Service Procedure

Rust Penetrant

Recommended rust penetrants to be used in this procedure:

NOTES:

^ Rust penetrant is considered a shop supply.

^ Nissan Rust Penetrant can be ordered through the Nissan Direct Ship Chemical Care Product Program, Website order via link on dealer portal.

^ WD-40 is available from various local sources.

Removal Tool

^ When removing a seized exhaust sensor with a specialty socket (which contains a slit to accommodate the wiring harness), it may spread open and

strip the sensor.

^ Before this occurs, it is recommended to cut the wiring harness from the sensor and use a box end wrench or 6-point deep well socket.

1. Clamp the exhaust manifold/catalyst/front tube in a vice.

2017 Nissan-Datsun Altima L4-2.5L (QR25DE) Page 389

2. Spray the sensor with the rust penetrant for 2 to 3 seconds.

^ It is important that the spray is directed at the base of the sensor to ensure it penetrates into the threads.

3. Loosen the sensor approximately 10 degrees.

4. Spray with rust penetrant again for 2 to 3 seconds.

5. Tighten the sensor 10 degrees, then loosen the sensor 10 degrees.

^ Repeat this motion several times until the sensor begins to turn more easily.

6. Continue the tightening/loosening motion while gradually unscrewing the sensor. Stop when the sensor will not unscrew any further.

2017 Nissan-Datsun Altima L4-2.5L (QR25DE) Page 390

7. Spray with rust penetrant again for 2 to 3 seconds.

8. Repeat steps 6 and 7 until the sensor is removed.

9. Use compressed air to remove any metal debris from inside the boss threads.

CAUTION:

DO NOT perform this step if the procedure is being done on the vehicle (Method #1). Doing so may cause metal debris to enter the engine cylinders.

10. If metal debris remains trapped in the boss threads, use a spiral nylon brush to remove it.

11. Spray the boss threads with rust penetrant for 2 to 3 seconds.

12. Run a thread chaser through the boss to clean the threads.

2017 Nissan-Datsun Altima L4-2.5L (QR25DE) Page 391

^ Use Kent Moore part number J-43897-18 or J43897-12.

13. Use compressed air to remove any remaining debris.

CAUTION:

DO NOT perform this step if the procedure is being done on the vehicle (Method #1). Doing so may cause metal debris to enter the engine cylinders.

14. If metal debris remains trapped in the boss threads, use a spiral nylon brush to remove it.

15. Tilt the manifold/catalyst/front tube so that the metal debris falls out of the part.

16. Apply compressed air through the boss to blow out any remaining debris.

CAUTION:

DO NOT perform this step if the procedure is being done on the vehicle (Method #1). Doing so may cause metal debris to enter the engine cylinders.

17. Install the new sensor as described in the applicable Electronic Service Manual (ESM).

2007-2011 ALTIMA; REVISED FRONT SEAT BACK SERVICE PROCEDURES

APPLIED VEHICLES: 2007-2011 Altima Coupe, Sedan, and Hybrid (C/L32/HV)

SERVICE INFORMATION

For 2007-2011 Altima vehicles, new front seat back disassembly and assembly procedures have been developed as the result of some service parts

now being available (for example, seat side air bag module).

Updated Service Manuals for 2010-2011 Altima vehicles will be distributed to the field as quickly as possible. For 2007-2009 vehicles, the updated

procedures will be available on ASIST as a Service Manual Amendment (SMA).

Until the updated Service Manuals are made available, please use the updated service information shown below if you need to service the front seat

back(s) for any reason.

NOTE:

The standard Flat Rate Times will be updated to reflect the new procedures.

Refer to images below view the revised SEAT (SE) section information.
