The Nissan GT-R R35 is powered by a twin-turbocharged 3.8-liter V6 engine, which is commonly referred to as the VR38DETT. The engine is hand-built by Nissan's performance division, NISMO, and features a cast aluminum block and heads, as well as a forged crankshaft, connecting rods, and pistons.

The VR38DETT engine produces a maximum output of 565 horsepower and 467 lb-ft of torque in the standard GT-R R35 model. However, higher-performance variants of the GT-R R35, such as the Nismo edition, are equipped with an upgraded version of the VR38DETT engine that produces up to 600 horsepower and 481 lb-ft of torque.

The VR38DETT engine is paired with a 6-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission in the GT-R R35, and features a sophisticated all-wheel drive system that provides excellent traction and handling in a variety of driving conditions. Overall, the VR38DETT engine is considered one of the most impressive and technologically advanced powerplants in the automotive industry.
