CLAIMS INFORMATION
SERVICE PROCEDURE
1. Set the ignition to the ACC position.
2. Remove screws from the front of the steering column cover as follows:
a. Turn the steering wheel 90° to the right of center.
b. Remove the trim cover that's covering the screw shown in Fig. 1.
l Pull the trim cover straight back, toward the driver seat.
l If needed, use a plastic trim tool.
c. Remove the screw shown in Fig. 1.
d. Turn the steering wheel 90° to the left of center.

e. Remove the left side trim cover and screw just like the one shown in Fig. 1.
f. Carefully remove the side steering column covers see Fig. 2.
l Covers come off easier if you turn the steering wheel 90° left to
remove the left cover and turn 90° right to remove the right cover.

g. Turn the steering wheel 180° from center (so it is upside down).
h. Remove the 2 screws shown in Fig. 3.

3. Set the ignition to the OFF position.

(1) Reference the Parts Information Table and use the Telescope Motor P/N as the
PFP.
(2) Reference the current Nissan Flat Rate Manual and use the Indicated FRT.
WARNING: Make sure the ignition is in the ACC position (not the ON
position).
NOTE: The tilt & telescope switch can remain attached to the side
cover.
WARNING: Make sure the ignition stays in the OFF position until the steering
column covers are reinstalled.

4. Telescope the steering wheel to the full out position (towards the driver) and
tilt up to the highest position.
5. Remove instrument side finisher LH.
l Use a plastic trim tool as shown.

6. Remove instrument lower panel LH as follows:
a. Remove the fuse panel cover.

b. Remove the screw near the fuse panel shown in Fig. 6.

c. Carefully pull the panel away from the dash to disengage the clips (see Fig.
7).
d. Disconnect the climate control cabin temperature tube and electrical
connector (see Fig. 7).
e. Disconnect electrical connectors for the items on the left side of the panel
(see Fig. 7).

f. Panel can hang in place.
l No other connectors need to be disconnected.

7. Remove metal knee panel - 4 bolts.

8. Remove steering column lower cover as follows:
a. Remove the screw from the lower cover.
b. Pull the lower cover down, away from the upper cover.
l Upper steering column cover does not need to be removed.
NOTE: l If one or both functions (tilt or telescope) are inoperative, try
pushing or pulling the steering wheel while operating the tilt &
telescope switch.
l If you are unable to adjust the steering wheel position, continue
with the procedure. Instructions for steering wheel adjustment will
be given later.

TILT MOTOR REPLACEMENT
1. Disconnect the tilt motor electrical connector.
2. Remove the two bolts from the tilt motor link shown in Fig. 11.
l Torque for reassembly: 18.5 N.m (1.9 kg-m, 14 ft-lb).

3. Remove the tilt motor mounting bolt - right side of the column.
l Torque for reassembly: 18.5 N.m (1.9 kg-m, 14 ft-lb).

4. Remove the tilt motor.

5. Install the tilt motor in reverse of removal.
l When installing the bolts for the link, hold the steering wheel and move it
up or down to align the bolt holes.
6. If you need to replace the telescope motor, go to Telescope motor replacement.
7. If repair is finished, reinstall all parts removed in reverse order.
8. Make sure tilt and telescope motors work correctly.
9. Inform the customer they will need to reset their Automatic Drive Positioner (ADP)
settings.
TELESCOPE MOTOR REPLACEMENT
1. Disconnect the telescope motor electrical connector.
2. Remove the two screws from the telescope motor link shown in Fig. 14.
l Torque for reassembly: 1.2 N.m (0.12 kg-m, 10 in-lb).
NOTE: The tilt & telescope switch can remain attached to the side
cover.
NOTE: See below for telescope motor replacement.
NOTE: Hold the weight of the steering wheel to relieve pressure from
these bolts. This will make it easier to remove or install them.
NOTE: Bolt is shown with cap removed.
NOTE: See above for tilt motor replacement.

3. Remove the mounting bolt shown in Fig. 14.
l Torque for reassembly: 18.5 N.m (1.9 kg-m, 14 ft-lb).

4. Remove the telescope motor.

5. Install the telescope motor in reverse of removal.
a. Turn (adjust) the telescope link to the full out position.
b. Adjust as need to fit it into its mounting position.

6. Reinstall all parts removed in reverse order.
7. Make sure the telescope and tilt motors work correctly.
8. Inform the customer they will need to reset their Automatic Drive Position (ADP)
settings.

7. Replace the seat frame / adjuster assembly.
l Refer to the ESM - SE Section, Front Seat Driver Side: Disassembly and
Assembly.
l During reassembly use a new side finisher and new front finisher listed in
the Parts Information.

8. Connect the battery cables - positive cable first.
9. Reset the clock and the radio station presets.
10. Refer to the Service Manual for the following "reset / relearn" procedures:
l Power Window Initialization
l Sunroof Memory Reset/Initialization
l ATC Temperature Setting Trimmer (A/C system)
l ATC Foot Position Setting Trimmer (A/C system)
l ATC Inlet Port Memory Function - FRE and REC (A/C system)
l Rear View Monitor Possible Route Line Center Position Adjustment (if
equipped)
l Steering Angle Sensor Neutral Position
11. Inform the customer they will need to "reset" their Automatic Drive Positioner.
SEATBACK FINISHER REMOVAL
l 2 top hooks
l 2 side hooks
l 2 bottom clips

1. Reach under the seat and disconnect the 2 elastic straps for the toe flap.

2. Insert your fingers behind the bottom corners of the finisher.
3. Pull the finisher to unsnap the bottom clips.
CAUTION: Use covers as needed to protect interior surfaces from being
scratched or damaged.

4. Hold the finisher on the outboard side (side towards the door).
5. Pull the finisher to unsnap the outboard side hook.

6. Hold the top of the finisher and push it down about 1 inch.

7. Pull out on the outboard side of the finisher.
8. Reach behind the finisher.

9. Unsnap the inboard side hook.

SEAT SIDE FINISHER REMOVAL
1. Carefully pull out on the center of the finisher.
2. At the rear of the finisher, insert a plastic trim tool in the gap.
3. Carefully pry between outer and inner finisher.

4. Continue to pull while pushing on each clip.
l See Fig. 12 for clip locations.

5. With the rear of the finisher unclipped, carefully pull on the finisher to release
the 4 side clips.

6. To release the front clip:
a. Pull on the front edge of the finisher,
b. And pry between the finisher and the seat frame with a plastic trim tool.

PFP.

SERVICE PROCEDURE
1. Write down all radio station pre-sets.
RADIO STATION PRE-SETS
2. If equipped - write down/record the following customer settings for the ATC
(Automatic Temperature Control) system (refer to the ESM as needed):
l Temperature Setting Trimmer
l Foot Position Setting Trimmer
l Inlet Port Memory Function
3. Turn the ignition switch OFF.
4. Disconnect both battery cables - negative cable first.
5. WARNING:
6. Carefully remove the driver seat from the vehicle.
l Refer to section SE of the ESM for seat removal procedure.
7. Replace the seat frame/adjuster assembly.
l Refer to the ESM - SE Section, Front Seat Driver Side: Disassembly and
Assembly.
l Seatback Removal.
l Seat Outer Finisher Removal.
(2) Refer to the current Nissan Warranty Flat Rate Manual and use the indicated
FRT.
IMPORTANT: Follow all cautions, warnings, and notes in the Electronic Service Manual
(ESM) when working on or near a Supplemental Restraint System (SRS),
such as an air bag.

WARNING: Wait for at least 3 minutes before removing the driver seat:

scratched or damaged.

8. Connect the battery cables - positive cable first.
9. Reset the clock and the radio station presets.
10. Refer to the Service Manual for the following "reset/relearn" procedures:
l Power Window Initialization
l Sunroof Memory Reset/Initialization
l ATC Temperature Setting Trimmer (A/C system)
l ATC Foot Position Setting Trimmer (A/C system)
l ATC Inlet Port Memory Function - FRE and REC (A/C system)
l Rear View Monitor Possible Route Line Center Position Adjustment (if
equipped)
l Steering Angle Sensor Neutral Position
11. Inform the customer they will need to "reset" their Automatic Drive Positioner.
SEATBACK FINISHER REMOVAL
1. Reach under the seat and disconnect the 2 elastic straps for the toe flap.

2. Insert your fingers behind the bottom corners of the finisher.
3. Pull the finisher to unsnap the bottom clips.

4. Hold the finisher on the outboard side (side towards the door).
5. Pull the finisher to unsnap the outboard side hook.

6. Hold the top of the finisher and push it down about 1 inch.

7. Pull out on the outboard side of the finisher.
8. Reach behind the finisher.
NOTE: The seatback finisher is held on with:
l 2 top hooks
l 2 side hooks
l 2 bottom clips

9. Unsnap the inboard side hook.

SEAT OUTER FINISHER REMOVAL
1. Carefully pull out on the center of the finisher.
2. At the rear of the finisher, insert a plastic trim tool in the gap.
3. Carefully pry between outer and inner finisher.

4. Continue to pull while pushing on each clip.
l See Fig. 12 on the next page for clip locations.

5. With the rear of the finisher unclipped, carefully pull on the finisher to release
the 4 side clips.
l See Fig. 12 for side clip locations.

6. To release the front clip:
a. Pull on the front edge of the finisher,
b. And pry between the finisher and the seat frame with a plastic trim tool.
