While the name "Qashqai" may sound like a Japanese word, it is actually derived from the name of a nomadic tribe that lives in the Zagros Mountains of Iran. The Qashqai people are known for their skill in weaving and for their distinctive style of carpets, which feature bold geometric designs and vivid colors.

According to Nissan, the name was chosen for the Qashqai SUV because it evokes a sense of adventure and exploration, as well as a connection to the rugged landscapes and rich cultures of the Middle East.
